Brotherhood Mutual Hosts Food Drive in Celebration of Its 90th Year
Fort Wayne, Indiana, October 31, 2007—Employees at Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company chose an unusual way to mark the company’s 90th year of business in northeast Indiana. Rather than host a party or purchase a commemorative coffee mug for each employee, the company opted to feed the hungry.
“We wanted to find a way to give thanks for all of our blessings, and to give back to the community where we live, work, and raise our families,” said Mark Robison, president and CEO of Brotherhood Mutual. “That’s how we came up with the idea for Food for the Fort.”
Food for the Fort kicked off on October 1 at Brotherhood Mutual. Employees were challenged to bring in 1,000 nonperishable food items for the Associated Churches Food Bank, which serves nearly 70,000 Allen County residents each year. The company surpassed that goal by the end of the first week, so the Food for the Fort planning committee raised the challenge to 5,000 food items by month’s end.
Brotherhood Mutual employees presented representatives from the Associated Churches Food Bank with their donation of 13,978 food items. “The number of hungry people here in our community continues to grow,” said Ellen Graham, director of the Associated Churches Food Bank. “We are thankful for all of the individuals, businesses and community organizations that support our efforts.”
