Brotherhood Mutual Announces Plans for Expansion
Company to build $5.2 million addition to corporate office; expects to add 64 new jobs
Fort Wayne, Ind., Sept. 21, 2009—Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company is expanding its corporate office in Fort Wayne.
The insurer of churches and related ministries will invest more than $5.2 million on a building expansion project that will add 26,000 square feet to its existing building, located off Ludwig Road on the city’s north side. The expansion will increase capacity for a customer service center that serves growing markets in the western United States.
“We’re excited that this expansion will allow us to serve more church and ministry customers across the country,” says Mark Robison, chairman and president of Brotherhood Mutual. “Indiana has been our home since the beginning and our company’s success was built on the hard work and dedication of the employees who live here.”
The company currently occupies a two-story 63,370 sq. ft. building located at 6400 Brotherhood Way. The construction project will add 26,000 sq. ft. of office space that will be attached to the existing building. Project construction will begin in October and is scheduled for completion in August 2010.
Brotherhood Mutual employs about 260 full time and part-time employees. This construction project will enable the company to add 64 new positions over the next two years. The company plans to begin hiring additional customer service and support personnel by the end of 2009.
Both the City of Fort Wayne and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation are offering programs to help fund the project. The Fort Wayne Common Council will consider phasing in taxes associated with the project, and the company will receive a $65,000 grant from the City of Fort Wayne. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation will provide up to $700,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $100,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans.
Earlier this year, Brotherhood Mutual ranked 10th on the Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s “Best Places to Work in Indiana” list, and the company was recently named to Ward Group’s list of top 50 property and casualty insurance companies. The company, which started over 90 years ago in Grabill, Indiana, provides insurance exclusively to churches and related ministries in 38 states and the District of Columbia. Brotherhood Mutual anticipates offering coverage in all 50 states within the next five years.
