ABOUT US: Brotherhood Works

Why We Chose Serbia

Like other eastern European countries transitioning from communism, Serbia is suffering economically. More than 30 percent of its population is unemployed.

Spending just a few days in Serbia told Hugh White, vice president of marketing, that this was the place to begin the foreign component of Brotherhood Works.

White caught the vision of Pastor Aleksandar Mitrovic, a dynamic leader in northern Serbia with a passion for reaching his nation with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Mitrovic heads the Protestant Evangelical Church of Novi Sad, which aims to plant seven area churches and accomplish other ambitious ministry goals. With 200 members, the congregation is one of the largest evangelical churches in Serbia. Only 1 percent of the nation’s religious institutions are Protestant.

“A mission project in war-torn Serbia offers a great way for Brotherhood Mutual to demonstrate its commitment to the mission of the Christian community we serve,” White says.

Through a partnership with the Novi Sad church, we can help address unemployment, build an educational wing for the church, plant new churches, and reach out to gypsy families living in poverty.

Thanks to this open door in Novi Sad, Christians in America have an opportunity to help this war-torn land.
