CLAIMS: Claims Stories

Rebuilding a Ministry... Out of the Ashes

A fire destroyed the Calvary Baptist Church building in Butler, Pennsylvania on March 12, 1998. This was only the first of two devastating blows for the church. The day after the fire, investigators told Pastor Wayne Dillabaugh that the blaze was caused by arson.

But when Brotherhood Mutual® agent Jim Hooks was told of the tragedy, something good started to happen. Hooks and Brotherhood's Claim department swung into action. In less than a week, Brotherhood Mutual issued a check for the church and hired an independent adjuster to gather estimates for rebuilding.

Pastor Dillabaugh and his congregation were so impressed with the response to their loss that they expressed their gratitude in a special way—an ad in the Butler (Pa.) Eagle. At the top of the list of people and organizations getting thanks for their help were the Jim Hooks Agency and Brotherhood Mutual for "service above and beyond."

The day after the fire, officials sifted through the ashes and discovered that the fire was set intentionally.

Thanks to the fast and efficient service of Brotherhood Mutual's claim service, the church was rebuilt in a matter of months.
