Q: How do we create a disaster response plan to help our community in the event of a natural disaster?

A:  If you choose to minister during a crisis by offering your facilities as a temporary shelter, evacuation center or emergency coordination center, you should:

  • Appoint a volunteer emergency facility coordinator.
  • Plan in advance how the facility will be used.
  • Identify risks and appropriate control measures.
  • Review insurance coverage.

You should seek legal counsel to determine if your risk control measures meet legal requirements and to develop medical and liability release forms for guests to sign.
