Build an Emergency Supply Kit

Here are some items every ministry should keep on hand

Having an emergency supply kit, packed and ready to go, can help your ministry and its volunteers respond to a variety of situations. The supply kit should be clearly labeled and easily accessible. Consider using one or more sturdy plastic totes, which are water resistant and portable. Assess your supplies regularly and replace items before they expire. Note your kit’s location in your emergency response plan, so others can find it quickly.

Consider including the following supplies:

  • First-aid kit
  • Flashlights
  • Battery-powered radio
  • NOAA weather radio
  • Battery or solar-powered cell phone charger
  • Extra batteries for flashlights, radios, and cell phone chargers
  • Small tool kit, with wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
  • Copy of ministry’s emergency response plan
  • Copies of important ministry documents (insurance, banking, disaster recovery information)
  • Non-perishable food (protein bars, trail mix, canned food)
  • Water
  • Moist towelettes or hand sanitizer
  • Garbage bags and plastic ties
  • Dust masks
  • Work gloves
  • Megaphone/ walkie-talkies
  • Blankets
  • Duct tape and plastic sheeting
