The company is a leading provider of property and casualty insurance for ministries including churches, Christian schools, camps, colleges, and mission organizations. Additionally, through its subsidiary divisions, the company connects ministries with payroll and HR solutions, employee benefits, and mission travel insurance.
Gabe Brown Promoted to Vice President Sales and Operations - Brotherhood Works - Affiliates
In his new role as vice president sales and operations - Brotherhood Works - affiliates, Gabe Brown, CPCU, CIC, AIC, AIS, provides oversight, leadership, and development of the company’s dedicated payroll services division and for insurance product operations such as global missions, employee benefits, and accident and health. He’s also responsible for leading current programs, while exploring future products, sales initiatives, and strategies.
Brown previously served as assistant vice president sales and special markets since 2015. His career with Brotherhood Mutual began in 2000 as an assistant underwriter. Over the years, he’s also held the positions of property claims adjuster, senior marketing specialist, and manager of the special markets division.
Brown studied at Anderson University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management. For the past seven years, he has served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne. Additionally, he’s been involved with leading mission trips for 17 years.
Drew Smith Joins Company as Vice President Marketing
Drew Smith, ARM, brings a wealth of industry knowledge to his new position as vice president of marketing. He’s responsible for providing leadership, development, oversight, and strategic direction for lead generation, brand marketing, agency marketing, and corporate communication initiatives, as well as managing the company’s overall brand architecture and strategy.
He joins Brotherhood Mutual after spending more than 27 years with American Specialty Insurance & Risk Services, Inc., a Fort Wayne-based MGU that specializes in insuring businesses and organizations within the sports and entertainment industries. During his time with American Specialty, Smith served the company in many different leadership roles including vice president client services, chief marketing officer, and was president of the company for 9.5 years. He finished his career with American Specialty as senior advisor until his acceptance as vice president of marketing at Brotherhood Mutual.
The Indiana University graduate earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Business. He holds the ARM designation and is a licensed insurance producer. Smith volunteers with several programs through Markle Church of Christ and serves as a host parent with Fort Wayne-based New Mercies Ministries.
Mitzi Thomas Transitions to Vice President and Marketing Advisor
Mitzi Thomas, ABC, has led a storied 30-year career with Brotherhood Mutual, where she has served as vice president of marketing for the past 12 years. With plans to retire at the end of 2025, Thomas stepped into the role of vice president and marketing advisor. Her responsibilities include completing goals for multiple company initiatives and serving on the Lightwell, LLC Board, the Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company Board of Directors, and the Brotherhood Mutual Foundation Board.
Thomas began her career at Brotherhood Mutual in 1995. Through the years she served as manager marketing communications, assistant vice president of corporate communications, and vice president of marketing. Mitzi’s strategic marketing expertise helped the company transition from a regional presence to a well-known national brand within the church and ministry insurance market.
A Taylor University graduate, Thomas has a Bachelor of Arts in English and History. She earned a Leadership Coaching Certificate from Huntington University in 2023 and holds an Accredited Business Communicator designation through the International Association of Business Communicators. She has served on the Youth for Christ Northern Indiana Board of Directors for 18 years.
