First Aid Training Resources

Where to get training in first aid, other procedures

Several organizations offer excellent training—either free or at nominal cost—in first aid, CPR, and AED skills. Here are a few that should be easy to find and available in most areas of the United States.

  • American Red Cross — Offers first aid, CPR, and AED programs designed to give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation with skills that can save a life. Additional training in bloodborne pathogens, oxygen administration, and injury prevention can be added to CPR and first aid training to prepare you to prevent and respond to life-threatening emergencies.
  • American Heart Association — Courses for the workplace include CPR, AED, first aid, and pediatric first aid, as well as a new online version of the first aid training course.

  • National Safety Council — Offers classes in first aid, CPR, AED skills, and bloodborne pathogens.

Also, local hospitals and emergency medical services facilities are often willing to provide training to church, school, and ministry volunteers at little or no cost. Many fitness facilities, such as the YMCA, frequently sponsor CPR training.
