Preparing for Nursery Emergencies

Although you try to make your nursery safe, accidents will happen. You can be prepared for them.

Here’s what you can do:

• Have a well-stocked first aid kit.
• Include first aid guidelines in your nursery procedures manual.
• Train workers regularly on first aid and emergency procedures.
• Post first aid guidelines, such as CPR instructions, in a prominent place.
• Post important telephone numbers, such as that of your local poison control center, near the telephone.
• Determine which injuries require immediate medical assistance.
• Create a system to notify parents of injuries.
• Maintain a signed medical release form on each child.
